Chances are, hair loss is a new experience for you. Your scalp may feel
strange: it may tingle or itch, or feel other odd sensations. Most doctors
haven't experienced hair loss themselves, so they aren't aware of how it
feels. If they aren't aware of it, they don't know to tell you about
it.
Use a mild shampoo on your scalp - not soap. Soap isn't pH-adjusted for
your scalp - it can dry the skin and make it itchy.
You lose 80% of body heat through your head - at night, wear a sleep
cap. Choose one without a seam in back for extra comfort.
When you come in to see us:
- Be sure to call ahead for an appointment so time can be set aside
just for you.
- Bring a friend or family member whose opinion you value and trust.
- Wear clothing in your favorite colors.
- Eat before you come in, as your selection may take some time - it's
better for you to be comfortable, and not in a hurry.
- If your hair loss has already begun, bring a favorite picture of
yourself and, if possible, a lock of your hair - the larger, the
better.
You can get a wig to duplicate your natural hair - but you're not
limited to that. Now is your chance to have any hair color and style you
want! This is the perfect time to do whatever makes you feel
good.
